More often than not, for me, cooking is not about the food itself.
It's not about the ingredients, the step-by-step instructions, the improvising, or even the delicious results.
For me, it's about the company you keep.
And sometimes, I think I forget that.
These are some of the most amazing kids I know.
(Background Info: I am part of a group in my community that puts on Christian-based church retreats. For the past several retreats, I have been the Kitchen Leader, and I have a team.)
My Kitchen Kids.
They wash the most disgusting dishes.
(And make them sparkle.)
They are so easily amazed by their mad cooking skills.
(Even when it is just heating up a can of unidentifiable refried beans.)
They get up super early.
(Just to enjoy the smell of bacon.)
And cook up some pancakes.
(That even look like Mickey!)
They build circus tents out of streamers.
(And save them when they fall.)
And sometimes, well...
(I'm not quite sure what they're doing...)
But they're awesome.
They're my Kitchen Kids.
While I try to do my part, and volunteer in my community, I do not always succeed.
But for the little I do accomplish, they are so right...
Usually the people you are trying to do some good for, end up doing more good for you than you for them.
I always try to make sure my "kids" have an awesome time on these weekends.
Unfortunately, I think I dropped the ball a little on this last one.
(Between work and whatnot, my head wasn't quite in the game.)
But these kids did an awesome job.
And I'm not quite sure what I would do without them.
(Cue sappy music and collage/slideshow of photos recapping memories new and old...)
And do not worry!
(There will always be cupcakes.)
Sincerely,
Cupcakes & Kisses
Paula-Marie
P.S. That cookies says "I <3 Paula".
I love you.
